Sheriff’s Office names new correctional captain., The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has introduced Jeremiah Mayes as its new correctional captain, according to a social media post by the department.
Mayes began his law enforcement career in 2005 with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado, starting in the jail after graduating from the POST Academy. In 2007, he joined the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office as a correctional deputy. During his 19 years with the Sheriff’s Office, Mayes has served in various assignments and leadership roles within the Custody Division. His assignments have included the Honor Farm, STC training coordinator, jail program sergeant, court sergeant, CERT team member, jail operations lieutenant,….
His career has included leading and participating in custody initiatives, including implementing the jail management system, achieving National Commission on Correctional Health Care accreditation and Prison Rape Elimination Act compliance, expanding programming and out-of-cell opportunities, and helping bring CalAIM services to San…. For Mayes, leadership starts with leading yourself well. His approach centers on leading by example, building relationships, setting clear expectations, accountability, and developing the people around him.
